Template: Bespoke design
Club badge: Embroidered, stitched on. Hummel: Rubber. All other sponsors: Sublimated. Jórvik is finally and fully recognised this season, with all three kits clearly inspired by the city's Viking history. A nice pattern of longboats, knots and runes runs throughout the shirt and an additional longboat sits below the collar on the rear of the shirt with "York" (not Jórvik) spelled out in runes on its shields. The runes on the main body are a phonetic representation of "York City Football Club", using the Elder Futhark, despite the Vikings actually using the Younger Futhark. This inaccuracy is unlikely to be noticed by many however, and is the only criticism that can be levelled at a very smart kit. The collar recalls the Hobott and MGC Sports kits from the 1980s/'90s.
Interestingly this shirt served as the goalkeeper kit for the remembrance fixture against Rochdale, selling for £635 at auction. |

Club badge: Embroidered, stitched on. Hummel: Rubber. All other sponsors: Sublimated. The Viking theme continues with a not-so-subtle repeating valknut pattern. The valknut is a symbol widely found in Norse art and mythology, although its true meaning is not known for certain. It is strongly associated with Odin and Valhalla, and representations of it have been discovered mainly at burial sites. The original name of the symbol is also unknown; valknut is actually a Norwegian word coined many years after the Viking Age, meaning "knot of those who have died in battle".
The collar of this shirt is the same as the primary kit's, but the navy and red are reversed. It is paired with sky blue shorts (a slightly different shade to the valknut in the shirt) and yet another shade of blue for the socks. Confusingly, the shirt was teased and revealed alongside The Mallard at the Railway Museum. |

Template: Bespoke design
Club badge: Embroidered, stitched on. Hummel: Rubber. All other sponsors: Sublimated. Ominously, this is the first black kit since the disastrous 2015/16 relegation season. Unlike its predecessor, this is not an off-the-shelf template and some care has been taken to make it fit in with its contemporaries. The pattern consists of a grey abstract of the Y shape from the club badge, surrounded by linked-up valknuts. The uppermost lion from the club badge is white, resulting in a striking and unique effect.
City wore this kit with a remembrance badge on the chest in the home fixture against Rochdale. The matchday squad's jerseys were then auctioned in aid of the Royal British Legion. Ollie Pearce's shirt raised the most at £991, with the lowest being George Sykes-Kenworthy's red goalkeeper shirt at £167. The total raised was an admirable £7,335. |
