City followed the lead of other clubs during this period by producing their first set of in-house kits under the name York Leisure. Although the simple design of the home shirt recalls the beautiful Admiral jerseys of the late 1970s, there is a there is a reduction in the basic quality of the shirt evident here. After six years of wearing, coincidentally, Admiral kits in the years leading up to this season the material used feels very thick and heavy in comparison. This is noticeable at a time when manufacturers were generally exploring ways of improving levels of comfort for athletes.

Whilst at first glance both kits appear to be very basic and dull, there are some significant things to note about the home kit in particular:
|
Sponsorship
- Local newspaper the Evening Press sponsored the kits for the first of two seasons.
- This is the first of two sets of kits produced by York Leisure.
