Now under fan ownership, City's kit reverted to a smart and more familiar colour scheme of red and navy - the last to feature navy until 2008/09's 'halves'. In fact, the navy shorts did not even make it to the end of this season (in the home kit at least) and were replaced by red ones midway through. The home shirt was made up of a darker red than usual and featured neat navy piping down the torso as well as a navy collar and cuff trims. The sky-blue away (last seen in 1988/89) followed the same template but with white trim. This shirt would be worn with navy shorts for the whole of this (and the next) season and probably explains the need to change the home shorts. Given the trials and tribulations involved in securing the club's future, it is possible that organising the club kits was not high on the list of jobs to do. Nevertheless, this is a smart pair of kits (at least until the introduction of red shorts).
Club badge voteTo mark the dawn of a new era in the clubs history City's new kits would also sport a new club badge and fans were given three options to choose from. Michael Elgie's winning design combined the five lions of York arranged around a white Y-front with elements of the city walls taken from the old club badge. The new badge was provided free of charge and was chosen from over 150 entries.
